Refinish Your Beautiful Wood Furniture With Our Professionals

At Weathersby Guild, we specialize in premium wood furniture refinishing services designed to breathe new life into your cherished pieces. Over time, wood furniture can become degraded due to everyday wear, scratches, stains, and surface damage. Our expert refinishing process restores your furniture to its original condition, preserving its beauty and extending its lifespan.

When Is Refinishing Needed?

If the damage on your furniture’s top surface is larger than a dime—such as noticeable scratches, gouges, water rings, or worn finishes—refinishing is the ideal solution. Rather than merely masking imperfections, our refinishing process removes the damaged surface layer and carefully reapplies high-quality stains and protective finishes. This ensures a smooth, flawless appearance comparable to the piece’s original look.

Our Premium Refinishing Process

Weathersby Guild takes pride in delivering exceptional craftsmanship combined with advanced techniques. Our refinishing services include:

Thorough Surface Preparation: We carefully strip away old paint, stains, and finishes, sanding the wood to create a perfect base for refinishing.

Expert Repair: Minor surface damages are expertly repaired, filling in scratches and imperfections to restore the wood’s integrity.

Custom Staining: Choose from a wide range of stain colors or match your furniture’s original tone to achieve the perfect finish.

Protective Coating: We apply durable sealants and finishes that protect the wood from future wear, moisture, and UV damage.

Attention to Detail: Every step is completed with meticulous care to ensure seamless results and enhance the furniture’s natural grain and character.

About Our Refinishing Process

Most damages to top surfaces will need to be refinished if they are larger than a dime or if the existing finish is starting to deteriorate. We would bring it to the shop. Use methylene chloride-based stripper when needed, or other more gentle strippers if the job calls for us to be more delicate, to remove the existing finish and get back down to bare wood. Then, using a combination of coloring techniques and coatings, we apply a new finish that has a base layer of catalyzed vinyl sealer and is top-coated with a catalyzed lacquer. Catalyzed lacquer is much stronger, resistant to alcohol and water, and will last longer than a traditional nitrocellulose lacquer. Some pieces require a different finish, such as shellac, a CAB lacquer, a water-based poly, or maybe a crackle lacquer.

Whatever it needs, we can provide. Is the final finish an off-the-gun finish, or does it need to be hand rubbed or maybe given a French polish? Whatever you desire and whatever fits the piece, we can accomplish.

Common Reasons to Refinish:

Old and worn existing finish

The existing finish has become tacky from age or heat

A damaged area larger than a dime (about 80% need stripping and refinishing; this is a case-by-case issue)

Severe water damage that can not be removed by the owner using an aerosol blush remover product

The need to change the color or look

Most refinishing is fairly expensive, but when compared to a new piece of furniture, it can sometimes be the better decision. New furniture will not be as quality-made because they get worse each year. It will also have a factory nitrocellulose finish instead of a catalyzed finish like we apply. That saves you money and gives you better quality furniture with a better quality finish.
